Thermally Activated Packer
Overview
The packer is used to isolate long horizontal sections in thermal-recovery wells and prevent communication between oil, gas and water zones.
The tool is run with the completion string. During steam injection, when the well temperature reaches 170 °C, the heat-sensitive material begins to vaporize. When pressure in the expansion chamber reaches the specified level, the pin shears and the hydraulic cylinder compresses the sealing element to isolate the annulus.
